CORNWALL SWEEPS THE ZONES

Cornwall Finishes One and Two in Zone Play-downs.,

(February 7, 2005)

This past weekend, Alexandria Curling Club played host to the 2005 O.C.A. Tim Horton’s Colts. Cornwall was well represented. The Cornwall Curling Centre sent 3 men’s teams to compete in the Zone Play-downs. The three teams representing Cornwall were: Kevin Baker’s, Denis Tremblay’s, and Mark McDonald’s rinks. Baker’s team went undefeated and claimed the Zone title after a tough fought match against Tremblay in the A Finals. Tremblay’s Team then went on to capture the B Final versus a stubborn Alexandria squad skipped by Ian Fraser. Other teams included rinks from Navan, Alexandria, Lancaster, and Maxville.

The Baker Rink was lead by Kevin Baker at skip (right), with Scott McDonald (third), Jeff Bethune (second), and Jean Charlebois (lead). The Tremblay team consisted of: Denis Tremblay (skip), Chris Lloyd (third), Lee MacCrae (second), and Chris Baker (lead).

The O.C.A. (Ontario Curling Association) Colts competition is a provincial event in which men’s teams from all over the province, compete through Zone and Regional Play-downs to finally qualify for the Provincial Finals. The event this past weekend in Alexandria was the first step.

Both Cornwall teams compete in the Regional event, which will be hosted at the Cornwall Curling Centre the weekend of February 18 – 20. This will be Baker’s fourth trip the Regionals, where he and Tremblay are both looking for a trip to the Provincials.
