CORNWALL MIXED BANTAMS OFF TO REGIONALS

(February 24, 2007)

On Saturday February 24th at the Winchester Curling Club, Ethan McAlear drew to the button and passed several guard rocks, making it tough for his opponent to pull off the same shot. The team won the extra end and as a result earned a spot in the regionals on March 3rd and 4th in Kingston, Ontario.

The mixed bantam team, made up of Ethan McAlear (skip), Monica Armstrong (Lead), Courtney Riviere (Vice), and Scott McGill (2nd), becomes the first team from Cornwall to ever win the zone playoffs and continue on to the next level.

On March 3rd, the team lost their first game and the second game was very intense. McAlear's team was down 8-1, when they pulled six in the sixth end, and went on to lose 9-8. However, the experienced they gained will propel them into next year where they look forward to playing together to hopefully get to the regionals again.

Coach Steve Riviere would like to commend the team for their grace under pressure, and the sportsmen like manner in which they conducted themselves. The Cornwall Curling Club can be proud of this team's ambassadorship. Thanks, as well, to the parents for their attendance and support.
