Alexandria, Ontario -- Cornwall was at the top of the podium again at the 2005 Alexandria Moose Bonspiel. The Moose has been running for 41 years, and the Oka Squad from Cornwall has claimed the title 4 times. No other team has won the event more than twice, so it is almost time to start talking "dynasty".

Pictured above is the Cornwall Team: (from the left) Mike Baker, Gerry McKenna, Frank Edwards, and Kiyo Oka. Missing from the photo was the Skip Kelly Oka (Navan).

The Oka Team was skipped by Kelly Oka (Navan), formerly of Cornwall. Curling with Kelly was his father Kiyo Oka, along with Mike Baker, and Gerry McKenna. During the strenuous competition, Kiyo Oka had to be replaced by curling stalwart Frank Edwards. "I was just glad I was able to come in and contribute", stated Edwards, "Kiyo's shoes are hard to fill, and I just took it one end at a time".

"It was a great effort," said Oka,"...we overcame adversity and I guess thats what helped us win!"

This 41st running of the Moose also marked a special achievement for one of Cornwall's most veteran curlers. Ivan Descotes was singled out and honoured by the Alexandria Curling Club for his dedication to the sport. Ivan played in his 41st consectutive Moose Bonspiel this past weekend and was given an honourary membership to the Alexandria Club.
