LEROUX'S YOUNG GUNS TAKE HOME THE HARDWARE

(April 1, 2007) - Montreal

Cornwall has added a third name to the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonia Curling Club's Trophies. Ron Leroux and his team of 5 and under Colts battled it out this past weekend at the Branch Finals. After a slow start, they found their pace and won three matches in a row to clinch the C event.

Leroux's rink played a tough team from Valleyfield, who had beat Cornwall in the early rounds. However, when they met again in the final, Cornwall exacted some revenge and took the title after a 10 end thriller.

The Branch finals were hosted by the prestigious Royal Montreal Curling Club. The only other Cornwall Teams to win the event were Bill Dickie and Larry Benoit.

The Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club was the original organization in Canada for curling. As the provinces formed their own associations with the Canadian Curling Association, the Branch has evolved into a committee of Curling Quebec. There are strong ties between Eastern Ontario and Quebec in curling, and the Branch serves to keep the spirit of the game going between the two provinces.
