Cornwall Curling Centre Opening Ceremonies

Friday September 10, 2004, was the day that Cornwall opened its new Curling Centre. With a full house of curlers, sponsors, and community leaders, congratulations were passed about freely. The support for the new facility has been overwhelming since the Groundbreaking Ceremony in the Fall of 2003. "It has really been a group effort", states Hugh O"Reilly, President of the Cornwall Curling Centre. "This has been the perfect example of how to work together to achieve a goal that benefits the community." Pictured below is Mr. O'Reilly accepting the Grand Opening Plaque from (left to right) Mr. Don Boudria MP, Mayor Phil Poirier, and MPP Jim Brownell.

The construction of the new six-sheet facility began in early October, 2003 and was completed for the beginning of the 2004 season. John Dilabio, Chairman of the New Building Committee stated “This new Curling Centre will raise the profile of the sport and hopefully raise the participation of all sectors of our community, young and old." Pictured below were the first people to through stones at the new facility.
